The Gray’s opened their home for the very first services. The first board was composed of all the men in the church. Gayle Whittaker was elected chairman. They met for the first time on August 14, 1962.
Tracy Wilhoit was called to serve on July 22, 1962. He and his wife, Kathy served only one year. A few years after leaving Lawrenceville, he was killed in a car accident. Following his resignation, there was a slump in interest, but the church soon rallied and gained over eighty members by the end of the year.
On July 28, 1963, Herbert Baynes and his wife, Helen answered the call to ministry at Central. They served two years. Helen taught Fifth Grade at Arlington School. At the end of their two-year ministry, attendance averaged 65.
The Alexander Store building at the corner of Ninth and Christy was purchased and renovated. It served the congregation well for several years.
